Wilson Center: Straight No Chaser: Summer: The 90s

Initially formed at Indiana University, a cappella group Straight No Chaser emerged at the forefront of the modern-day a cappella movement, and has since sold more than three million albums worldwide, garnered more than a billion streams on Pandora alone, and sold more than 1.5 million concert tickets worldwide. In the fall of 2023, the group performed in more than 50 cities across the US with multiple sold-out shows, including a record-breaking run in Indianapolis.

Now in the seventh decade of his professional life, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music. Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960's. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings, followed by his work in the 70s — with record-breaking albums such as "Headhunters" — that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. "Rockit" and "Future Shock" marked Hancock's foray into electronic dance sounds; during the same period he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO), the three-time GRAMMY® award winning Salsa and Latin Jazz band, sets the gold standard for excellence in authentic, New York style, hard core salsa. This thirteen-member orchestra is made up of world-renowned singers, musicians, and performers, who are characterized by the sound of Spanish Harlem in New York City with their raw, organic, and explosive tones. Oscar Hernández, the bandleader, founder, and pianist of SHO, honors the tradition of great Latin music and works to promote and continue the salsa movement. The lively energy and layered sound of SHO is completely unique, prompting Latin Jazz Network to describe them as “One of the most important contemporary Latin music ensembles in existence today.” Their latest tour, coming live to CFCC’s Wilson Center, spans their eight studio albums and includes original, harmonic Latin jazz. Grounded in influences from the past with focus on the future, Spanish Harlem Orchestra is continually delivering an unparalleled musical experience. Dancing is encouraged!
