This preview has been provided by riverdeep.

It isn’t often you attend a concert and hear Francis Poulenc and Leonard Cohen in the same evening.  It isn’t often you find an ensemble equally at home with Arvo Pärt and Duke Ellington.  For riverdeep, the Triangle’s premier professional male chamber choir, this is standard fare.

riverdeep was founded by Dr. William Adams and Jeff Clark in 2010 with the goal of creating a high caliber men’s choral ensemble that would present music from “the Renaissance to Rockapella.”  The men of riverdeep are invited from the ranks of the best male choral singers throughout the Triangle.  Their debut concert in February 2011 was enthusiastically received by a capacity crowd.

On October 19 and 20, 2013,  riverdeep returns to present a challenging and exciting program of contemporary music for male choir.  The concert is divided into four sets.  The first set will be contemporary works which involve accompaniment.  Joining riverdeep for this concert is pianist Dr. Anatoly Larkin, and percussionist Kevin Holland.  Featured in this set are Randall Thompson’s “Tarantella” and Bob Chilcott’s gripping “Five Ways to Kill a Man.”  The all a cappella second set of the program includes Francis Poulenc’s “Quatre Petites Prières de Saint François d’Assise” and a world premiere of William Adams’ “Tread Softly” which features guest soprano Patty Philipps.  A prominent part of the debut concert was an attention to world music and this concert will be no different.  Their third set will include pieces in German, Russian, Hindi, and Portuguese.  Their final set will be a jaunt through various styles of close harmony a cappella including barbershop, pop, and vocal jazz.  The full program is listed below.

General Admission is $20. Tickets may be purchased at the door, in advance from a member of riverdeep, or online.
