
Amernet String Quartet
Week Two of the Eastern Music Festival 2024 Season presents an exhilarating array of performances by our faculty, Young Artists, fellows, and special guests The Amernet String Quartet. This week’s program offers an eclectic mix of composers from the early to mid-twentieth century, alongside well-known names from the classical and romantic eras, and even a few contemporary 21st-century composers.
This week’s Guest Masterclasses will be conducted by the Amernet String Quartet and internationally acclaimed violinist Jeff Multer. The classes will take place in the Carnegie Room, Hege Library at Guilford College on Monday, July 1st at 1 PM (The Amernet String Quartet) and Friday, July 5th at 4 PM (Jeff Multer). These masterclasses are free and open to the public.

The EMF Euphonium Tuba faculty is thrilled to present the Euphonium-Tuba Institute Recital on Wednesday, July 3rd at 8:00 PM in Dana Auditorium. The performance will feature EMF Faculty Artists Seth Horner, Matt Shipes, and Marika Bournaki, as well as the Euphonium-Tuba Institute Ensemble. Bach, Brahms, and Berlioz, alongside the modern compositions of living composers Barbara York and Frank Gulino.
Attend our Musically Speaking programs to delve into the background of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings’ compositions and composers. Join musicologist Dr. Greg Carroll and EMF special guests at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 4th, Friday, July 5th, and Saturday, July 6th in the Moon Room of Dana Auditorium. All pre-concert talks are free and open to the public.
EMF’s Young Artists Orchestras take the stage at Dana Auditorium on both Thursday and Friday, July 4th and July 5th at 8:00 PM, showcasing artistic excellence and adventurous repertoire. These evenings will feature Resident Conductors Grant Cooper and José-Luis Novo, as well as flautist Jake Fridkis. The concerts will include selections from Kevin Puts, Bartók, and Mahler.
EMF’s Euphonium-Tuba Young Artist Recital will feature extraordinary performances by our young artists, from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions. Whether you’re an avid fan of EMF or simply appreciate beautiful music, this FREE event is not to be missed! Every Saturday night during the Eastern Music Festival season, the Dana Auditorium Lawn at Guilford College comes alive with the vibrant sounds of the Pre-Concert Brass Preludes. Starting at 7:15 PM, this delightful event features the talented EMF Young Artists, offering a captivating musical experience for free.
The Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Festival Orchestra Series’ concert titled Visionaries and Dreamers will feature the extraordinary violinist Jeff Multer and remarkable cellist Julian Schwarz performing with the Eastern Festival Orchestra on Saturday, July 6th in Dana Auditorium. The evening will showcase the adventurous works of Still’s “Threnody: In Memory of Jean Sibelius”, Brahms’ Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, and Franck’s Symphony in D minor.
EMF’s Young Artists Piano Recitals will take place on Sundays, July 7th, July 14th, and July 21st at 3:00 PM in Dana Auditorium, and on Wednesday, July 24th at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM in the Carnegie Room, Hege Library at Guilford College. All recitals are free and open to the public. Featuring unique performances by our young artists, these recitals promise an unforgettable experience for all music enthusiasts.
