This week’s episode of Carolina Live, the program that highlights classical musicians from the Carolinas as well as those of international renown who visit our performance halls,  features the finalists in WDAV’s first ever Young Chamber Musicians Classical Competition.

The program begins with three of the competition judges performing selections by Vivaldi and Rodrigo to warm up the crowd in Tyler-Tallman Hall. Then the finalists from the high school division take the stage, beginning with clarinet trio The Liquorice Stix from Winston-Salem and Statesville playing music by Joplin and Mozart. Varsity Brass from the Unifour area in North Carolina performs selections from Renaissance to modern. The Chante Trio from Greenville, South Carolina plays a movement from a Brahms Piano Trio followed by music written expressly for them. Finally the Euros Saxophone Quartet, comprised of musicians from USC in Columbia, plays two selections by French composers. There’s also an encore from the winner in the college division category – you’ll need to listen to find out which ensemble wins!

You can hear Carolina Live on Sundays from 3-5pm and Fridays from 7-9pm. Tune to 89.9 FM, wdav.org, or the WDAV Classical Public Radio app.
