WILMINGTON, NC – The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce that it has received grant awards in support of its youth education programs. Grants from the Landfall Foundation, the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County and the Abigail L. Spire Foundation will help fund the Wilmington Symphony’s 2014-15 Music for Youth, a set of five… youth education programs that broaden the reach of symphonic music to children and their families.
“The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra remains committed to youth outreach as an organizational priority,” according to Marian Hills, President of the Wilmington Symphony’s Board of Directors. “These awards play a key role in helping us provide cultural opportunities to area youth and ensure accessibility to the Wilmington Symphony’s youth education programs to everyone in our region.”
At the November 23rd Family Matinee performed by the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings, Bill Hamlet, President of the Landfall Foundation presented the Wilmington Symphony with an award of $7,500. Receiving the gift were Board President Marian Hills and Joy Murrell, Chair of the Wilmington Symphony’s Education Committee.
Joining in the presentation was Bill Bell, chairman of the Foundation’s Arts Grants Committee who commented that “The mission of the Landfall Foundation is to provide funds to local nonprofit organizations for programs that provide for Arts, Education, and Health and Welfare in the Greater Wilmington area. The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is one of the organizations selected to receive an arts grant this year. The award will help support the Symphony’s impressive Music for Youth programs.”
The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s Music for Youth also received a $5,000 award from the Grassroots Arts Program, administered by the Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County. Grassroots Arts is a program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Additional funding for Wilmington Symphony youth education programs is being provided by an award from the Abigail L. Spire Foundation.
