Have you heard that Bloomberg News has given up on culture? The story’s here.

And some of the folks who teach cultural journalism are abandoning the field, too. The NEA and Columbia University quit funding their classical music and opera institute several years ago, and the program at USC has now thrown in the towel, too: http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2014/03/as-arts-criticism-transforms-online-tools-and-tenacity-are-required.

The moral of this story is this: If you care about the coverage, you owe it to yourself to support it.

Remember, organizations like CVNC that are still doing cultural journalism are not built exclusively on the good will of their writers – they need money to pay their writers and to sustain their operations.

As we approach the last quarter of the current fiscal year – CVNC‘s 13th year of service – we urge you to consider a tax-deductible gift – or another one, if you have already given this year. The grants we get from arts councils and commissions are of course important, in part because they provide votes of confidence supporting the value of our work in the overall scheme of  things, but it is a fact that donations from individuals truly sustain us – last year more than 56% of our income came from individual donations.

And remember, we’re all in this together.

Yes, the economy seems to be sputtering back to life. But the arts and education are traditionally among the last to feel an upswing.

So if you value our work and want us to continue to serve the arts community here – to serve YOU – please give now. For details, click here.

Thank you!
