Country music icon, children’s advocate, and all around awesome human, Dolly brings her signature songwriting pluck to this adaptation of her empowering 1980 movie about three women turning the man’s world of the modern office into their own. Like the heroines of the Barbie movie, there’s no corporate glass ceiling these women can’t smash.

Burning Coal Theatre at the Murphey School 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC, United States

Set in Harlem, 1930, the play brings together a rich cast of characters who reflect the conflicting currents of the time through their overlapping personalities and politics. A free-spirited Cotton Club singer has just been fired with nowhere left to go.  Angel then falls for a stranger from Alabama, their romance forces the group to make good on their ambitions, or give in to the reality of the time.
