ABOUT THE TWO-PART PROGRAM:

Part 1 will look at the interaction between Richard Wagner, his mistress Cosima, and his benefactor, King Ludwig, during the years of composition of Die Meistersinger. Part 2 will focus on the character of Hans Sachs, the man in whom Wagner saw himself. Wagner stated: “I only exist in the performance of my works.” The genius of Wagner’s composition will be set against the chaos of his personal life. Sources will include letters and communications from the period.
