Current Poet Laureate of the Piedmont, Christopher Massenburg, better known as Dasan Ahanu, is a public speaker, organizer, curator, educator, poet, spoken word artist, educator, songwriter, and emcee, and loyal Hip Hop head born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is co-founder and managing director of Black Poetry Theatre, a Durham-based theatre company that creates and produces original poetry and spoken word-based productions.

Celebrating Next Level: Hip Hop Diplomacy

Come groove with this hip hop collaboration, fueled by Next Level, the State Department’s cultural diplomacy program. Since its establishment by founding director and Carolina music professor Mark Katz, the program has sent American hip hop artists to over 50 countries to team up with young people in underserved communities.

In 2024, the program will celebrate its 10th anniversary. To mark the occasion, CPA will convene a star-studded crew of global alumni for a week of masterclasses, workshops, jam sessions, and more. Invited participants include rappers, DJs, dancers, and visual artists from around the globe. The week will culminate in an epic final concert on February 2.
