As the formal concert seasons of winter and spring give way to the “pops” sounds of summer, what could be better than a brass band concert showcasing the music of John Williams? That could only be a concert of THREE brass bands, from our local organization, the Triangle Brass Bands, all performing the best music of John Williams, drawn from the Star Wars and Harry Potter films!

John Williams is one of the most pre-eminent American composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His TV and film scores have earned countless Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. His 1977 Star Wars score was selected by the American Film Institute as the greatest American film score of all time. His scores for the films Jaws and E.T. appear on the same list, in positions 6 and 14; he is the only composer to have three scores on this list. He received the AFI’s Life Achievement Award in 2016, the National Medal of Arts (presented at the White House) in 2009 and the Olympic Order, presented by the International Olympic Committee (its highest honor) in 2003. His name is virtually synonymous with the best of Hollywood film scores.

Williams was commissioned by Director Steven Spielberg for several of his early blockbuster films; Spielberg recommended Williams to his friend, George Lucas, who directed the Star Wars series. Williams has produced the film scores for all the Star Wars films (prequels and sequels alike). In the new millennium, he was asked to score the film adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s widely successful book series, Harry Potter. Although Williams only scored the first three film installments, many of the melodies from these films were used in the following five films.

The Triangle Brass Band is proud to bring John Williams’ music to the public in this marvelous outdoor setting in Cary. In keeping with the concert themes, the audience is invited to participate in the theatrics by attending in costume – come as your favorite Jedi Knight, Princess Leia or Yoda, or join your Hogwarts House and attend as a Gryffindor or Slytherin student (there’s room for optional games of Quidditch on the side lawns)! Enactors representing the Light Side and the Dark Side (from the Star Wars films) will be on-hand, so bring your camera to snap plenty of selfies with these costumed enthusiasts.
