About the Smoky Mountain Brass Band:
The Smoky Mountain Brass Band was founded by Richard Trevarthen, a music professor at Western Carolina University, and a small cadre of friends from the music departments at Western Carolina and Mars Hill College in March 1981. The band, then as now, draws its membership from throughout Western North Carolina. These volunteer musicians share a common passion for performing in a dynamic ensemble, in the tradition of generations of British-style community brass bands.
