The following preview has been provided by The American Music Festival.

The American Music Festival of Carteret County kicks off its 23rd season with “Celebrating Bach” on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 8 PM at The History Place in Morehead City.  The theme for this season’s concerts is “Music You Love.”  Season and individual concert tickets are available now, some at discount prices!

This September’s program showcases wonderful music and many outstanding artists from near and far.  The September 29 concert whose theme is “Celebrating Bach” will feature Andrew Willis, virtuoso harpsichordist who will perform in the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5;  Nicholas Duchamp, flutist with the French National Opera; our own Barbara McKenzie, piano;  Adele Pena, violin (a founding member of the Eroica Trio); Jacqui Carrasco, violin (Wake Forest U); Nancy King, soprano (Toronto); Sheila Browne, Viola (NCSA); Stephanie Vial, baroque cello; and Paul Sharpe, Bass (NCSA).

Bach’s music is known for its outstanding beauty, variety and profundity; clearly one of the high water marks of Western cultural musical expression. This extraordinary concert will feature Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, his D minor Piano Concerto, and the Trio Aria from Cantata No. 100. All in all, this September Concert promises to be a real celebration of Bach’s work with a program that has beautiful and moving music. The concert will be at 8 PM on Saturday, September 29, at The History Place in Morehead City, NC.  Parking is free.

The AMF is proud to be able to continue to provide great music for our community, now in our 23rd year.  This is not possible without community support.  This includes season ticket purchasers, individual donors, advertisers, local businesses and grants from the Carteret County Arts Council, the NC Arts Council (a division of the Department of Cultural Resources); South Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts, the Olde Towne Rotary Club and a media partnership with Public Radio East.

Gifts and grants also make possible special outreach performances for the Carteret County Schools.  This year’s public school outreach will feature several woodwind/band instrument workshops for local high school level band students.  This will be presented by members of the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Purchasing season tickets for the five concert series is the lowest-cost way to be guaranteed seats for each performance.   Season tickets are now on sale for only $100.00.  This is a 20% reduction from the individual ticket price.  Discounted  $75.00  season tickets are available for students, full time teachers, and active duty military with ID.  Both season tickets and individual concert tickets may be reserved by calling 252-728-6152.  Individual single tickets at the door are $25.00.  Mail orders should be addressed to AMF, P.O. Box 1099, Beaufort, NC 28516.

Although not part of the regular five-concert season, on April 20th the American Music Festival is proud to present the first North Carolina performance of Aaron Diehl, recent winner of the prestigious Cole Porter prize.  Jazz lovers should circle this date on their calendars.  This is a chance to hear the very best of American Jazz without having to travel to New York or San Francisco!  Mr. Diehl has performed with the Wynton Marsalis Septet, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and the Boston symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Diehl will be joined by long time trio partners David Wong, bass, and Quincy Davis, drums.
