With hearty thanks to all our generous donors for end-of-year gifts (and those who’ll be contributing in 2016), we extend our very best New Year’s greetings and offer as a small token of our esteem and gratitude a spectacular-sounding 1952 film of South Pacific (complete!), from London, with Mary Martin (of the original Broadway cast).

Alas, the b&w film itself is somewhat washed-out, but this is nonetheless well worth seeing!

By the time this was filmed, Ezio Pinza had dropped out of the show, so we lack his magnetic presence; in his absence Wilbur Evans does quite well!

Enjoy! And while you do so, please reflect on the universal issues and concerns this timeless classic continues to raise for all of us, today.
