Larry & Joe is the duo of Joropo maestro Larry Bellorín (Monagas, Venezuela) and GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time star Joe Troop (Winston-Salem, North Carolina). These two virtuosic multi-instrumentalists fuse their respective Venezuelan and Appalachian folk traditions on the harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, upright bass, guitar, and maracas to prove that music has no borders. Their bilingual (esp/eng) program includes storytelling, humor, and singalongs.

American Patchwork Quartet

Vocalist/violinist Harini Raghavan, guitarist/vocalist Clay Ross, drummer Clarence Penn, and bassist Nori Naraoka are four U.S. citizens from vastly different cultural backgrounds, united by music, and a shared mission to spark conversation around race and immigration. Beyond borders, cultures, and colors, American Patchwork Quartet compels audiences to reflect on our shared histories and defining differences.

DaShawn Hickman

One of the foremost contemporary practitioners of Sacred Steel, a blues-gospel tradition dating back to the Pentecostal-Holiness churches of the 1930s, DaShawn Hickman grew up hearing the pedal steel in the tiny House of God church his family attended in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and listening to his mother play lap steel in their home.  Now, Hickman puts his own spin on the Sacred Steel tradition with Drums, Roots & Steel, his debut album on Little Village, produced by Charlie Hunter (who also plays bass on the recordings), and featuring the soulful vocals of Hickman’s wife Wendy on several tracks.

Barefoot Movement Holiday Special

Dasan Ahanu and Trio

Current Poet Laureate of the Piedmont, Christopher Massenburg, better known as Dasan Ahanu, is a public speaker, organizer, curator, educator, poet, spoken word artist, educator, songwriter, and emcee, and loyal Hip Hop head born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is co-founder and managing director of Black Poetry Theatre, a Durham-based theatre company that creates and produces original poetry and spoken word-based productions.

With a 20-year background studying polyphonic music around the world, Lauren Breunig, Jeremy Carter-Gordon, Lynn Rowan, and Will Rowan share a vibrant energy onstage with a blending of voices that can only come from decades of friendship alongside dedicated practice. The ensemble shifts effortlessly between drastically different styles of music, drawing their audience along on a journey that spans continents and centuries, illuminating and expanding on the profound power and variation of the human voice. The singers educate as they entertain, sharing stories about their songs and explaining the context and characteristics of the styles in which they sing.

We’ve paired two local/regional acts with two contrasting styles, giving you the opportunity to discover the amazing things your neighbors are doing! Then, enjoy songs by the American indie-rock/alternative duo Paleface and Monica “Mo” Samalot.
