This is a nice review if long on description of music and short on the orchestra’s performance. And I am very gratified that Mr. Robinson urged folks to financially support the orchestra, particularly at a time when I am told that the Durham Symphony is sadly insolvent.

However his extensive comments about our not performing 20th and 21st century music are simply shocking. In the last two seasons we performed world premieres of 21st century music, several of which were cited in the pages of CVNC. Additionally, each season has had an abundance of such music due to our creation of The Robert Ward Endowment for the Performance of 20th and 21st Century Music. That fund is now at $44,000 of a $50,000 goal (a $7,000 gift having been announced at this concert). Lorenzo Muti works aggressively to present such music, and several CDs on the Albany Label feature the COT performing the works of Robert Ward. We are the strongest voice for the presentation of 20th and 21st century music in the region, perhaps in the state. In addition, Mimi Stillman, a brilliant flautist of great renown, has performed adventurous music on numerous occasions with this orchestra.

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of your readers.
