Hickory’s Western Piedmont Symphony has announced the winner of its Maestro Challenge, selecting Matthew Troy as the conductor who will replace John Gordon Ross, who retired last season after his 27 years of distinguished service in Catawba County and beyond. Those JGR shoes are large but Troy has had considerable experience in our state and is clearly the person of the hour for this august ensemble and its wonderfully supportive community. Bravo and best wishes!

Meanwhile the Hickory Daily Record reports on the new hire here and has also reported on Ross’ plans, here.
