This past Monday night (12/8/14), CVNC was part of an invited guest list to attend Raleigh Little Theatre‘s first rehearsal of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. This production, opening February 13, 2015, marks new Artistic Director Patrick Torres’ directorial debut with RLT. Torres introduced the production’s concept, placing it in 1945, and explained how this post-WWII framework may serve to highlight such fertile themes in Shakespeare’s text as gender roles in society, the joys of coming home from war, and the latent discontent of soldiers no longer with a cause. The production, concept, and cast hold much promise, and CVNC looks forward to seeing the final results of what on Monday night Torres repeatedly called a “strong foundation.”
