RALEIGH, N.C. – The N.C. Center for Nonprofits has appointed Robert Maddrey as the statewide organization’s new Director for Sustainability. He will begin work November 16.

In this position, Maddrey will be responsible for raising the financial resources needed for the N.C. Center to achieve and sustain its mission of serving and uniting nonprofits across North Carolina.

“The Director for Sustainability role exemplifies the N.C. Center’s core value of the careful stewardship of all human, financial, and natural resources. Throughout his career in our state’s nonprofit sector, Rob has demonstrated his deep commitment to these principles,” said Trisha Lester, Acting President of the N.C. Center. “While Rob was its executive director, ARTS North Carolina became a Founding Member of the Center, so he understands on a deep level the Center’s mission, its work, and why it’s important to the strength and sustainability of our state’s nonprofit sector. We are thrilled that he will be joining the Center’s team.”

Maddrey has more than 29 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership positions. Previously, he was assistant vice president for philanthropy, annual fund, and operations with the North Carolina Symphony and had a long tenure with that statewide organization. He was also director of communications for Preservation North Carolina. Rob served as executive director of ARTS North Carolina and successfully consolidated Arts Advocates of North Carolina, a statewide advocacy organization, into ARTS North Carolina in 1996 and went on to lead it for two more years.

“Nonprofits have a $38.5 billion impact on our state’s economy,” Maddrey said. “I am excited about working with the N.C. Center as we strive to connect these important organizations with the resources to help them achieve their missions and meet the ever-growing demands for their services.”

He currently serves on the board of directors of ARTS North Carolina and performs with the chamber choir of the North Carolina Master Chorale, having twice served as its president. He is also co-founder and a former chair of the North Carolina Choral Arts Network. Maddrey holds a bachelors degree in economics from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed professional training at the university’s Arts Management Institute.
