North Carolina native Joby Bell will close the 2012-2013 Music for a Great Space concert season with works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Franck, and Widor. A recitalist who “plays with fire and passion” (James David Christie), Mr. Bell has performed in Paris, Chartres, London, and throughout southern England, Scotland, Romania, and Hungary. He will perform on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 Holden Road, following Music for a Great Space dinner fundraiser at Print Works Bistro.

Joby Bell has performed at the invitation of numerous chapters and conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the Victoria Bach Festival, the Houston Masterworks Chorus, the Washington National Cathedral, and conferences on worship and music at Montreat and at Lake Junaluska. His concertizing throughout the United States has met with high acclaim, while his performances abroad have been enthusiastically received.

Dr. Bell has served the American Guild of Organists as a faculty member of Pipe Organ Encounters, as dean of the Houston (TX) and Boone (NC) chapters, and from 2006-2010 as director of the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance. He garnered Second Prize and the Audience Prize in that same competition in 2000. Since 2004, he has served on the faculty of the Hayes School of Music, Appalachian State University. Joby Bell attended high school at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and earned the Bachelor of Music degree in organ and piano from Appalachian State University and the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in organ from Rice University.

Prior to the concert, Print Works Bistro will host a dining fundraiser to support Music for a Great Space. Print Works has agreed to donate $10 to MGS and give $5 for each customer that presents a special voucher to their server. This voucher will be e-mailed to MGS patrons the week prior to the concert, and will also be available at the Joby Bell concert for use until April 7. Reservations are recommended!
