Music for a Great Space (MGS) chooses an uncommon musical grouping to start off their season.  MGS is known for performances featuring organ, vocalists, and traditional chamber music ensembles such as piano trios and string quartets.  But this first concert will feature the Brass Roots Trio, a Chicago based ensemble consisting of trumpet, french horn, and piano.  To add even more depth to their sound palate, the french horn player also occasionally surprises audiences with a song.  The program will include a varied group of works by Copland, Verdi, Gershwin, Piazzolla, and Dave Brubeck as well as traditional American songs.

Called “deliciously diversified with astounding virtuosity” (The Oak Ridger) and “a full and magnificent ensemble” (Times-West Virginian), Brass Roots Trio is currently in its 12th season.  They have performed both nationally and internationally including featured performances at the Chicago Brass Festival, St.  James  Piccadilly  in  London,  Oxford  University, and on Community Concert Series, Chamber Music Series and NPR.  In 2009 the group was honored to perform at the White House for a holiday performance for President and Mrs. Obama.

In addition to the Friday evening performance, Brass Roots Trio will also be performing for and working with Piedmont Triad students including visits to Ragsdale High School, Greensboro College, and Florence Elementary.
