Laugh your farce off this Friday night with comedies of absurdity and exaggeration!
This Friday, December 6, Meredith College’s Theatre Department presents the Directing class’ fall showcase of student-directed scenes in Comedies of Errors: Laugh Your Farce Off. Cast with Meredith students from all majors, the directors – upperclass-person theatre majors – have compiled their scenes into a one-night-only performance of comedies.
In shows commonly called by participants “The Directing Scenes,” Meredith’s theatre department presents new scenes by student directors every other year. This year’s directors are Madira Hoffman, Teia Coley, Taylor Pearce, Rimsha Afzal, Emily Johns, Kat Froehlich, Andrea Maberry, Elaina Mittleman, and Meredith Davis.
The Directing Scenes are a realized product of the course work as a part of these young women training to be professional theatre artists. Each director must design her own lights, sound, costumes, and set. After a semester of work, the directors have each chosen their scenes, cast their actors, blocked the staging, coached the actors, and created a production that will make you “laugh your farce off!”
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theater and runs just over an hour and a half with intermission. Note that language and content are for mature audiences. Cost of admission is free and open to the public.
