Word of the October 6 death of Max Halperen, 89, reached us Tuesday via a Facebook post from Raleigh’s Artspace, where he maintained a studio. For nearly 60 years he was a mover and shaker in the Triangle arts community, thanks to his remarkable paintings, his scholarship, his advocacy, and his astute criticism, which included, in the twilight of his career, a series of reviews for CVNC.

The obituary appeared in the N&O on Friday. Here is the link.

There will be a service at Brown-Wynne, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, on Sunday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m.

We mourn his passing and extend our sympathies to his family and to his many friends and admirers.
