The Greenville Choral Society will begin its 2012-13 season with three concerts in December, including one as part of the S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series at East Carolina University.
The season will begin Dec. 1 with seasonal choral selections by the society’s youth and children’s ensembles and the Concert Choir. The Children’s Chorus and Youth Chorale, along with the Bella Voce Singers, will present their winter concert Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. at The Memorial Baptist Church, 1510 SE Greenville Blvd. Among the selections on the children’s program will be “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” a plainsong chant and “Personet Hodie.” Among the Youth Chorale selections will be “Sussex Carol,” “And the Glory of the Lord” from Handel’s “Messiah” and “Sicut Locutus Est.” The Children and Youth ensembles will join forces for “Sing Noel.”
The Concert Choir will perform seasonal selections in a SRAPAS program featuring the Raleigh Ringers Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. at Wright Auditorium on the ECU campus. Among the selections will be Martin Shaw’s “Fanfare for Christmas Day,” Hugo Jungst’s arrangement of “While By My Sheep,” and Noel Goemanne’s setting of “Sing, Be Joyful, Christ Is Born,” along with several traditional seasonal carols.
The Concert Choir and the New Carolina Sinfonia will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” with Peggy Vaughan as soprano soloist, along with other seasonal music Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at The Memorial Baptist Church.
Tickets to the children and youth ensemble program Dec. 1 are $5 each. Tickets to the SRAPAS program Dec. 1 are available through ECU. Tickets to the concert choir’s Dec. 15 concert are $10 in advance and $15 at the door ($10 for seniors and students). Advance tickets are available at Steinbeck’s Men’s Shop and The Scullery in Greenville and InkStone Gallery in Winterville.
