High impact pianist and First Prize Winner of the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition, Dmitry Masleev, joins the Greensboro Symphony for a majestic evening this January! The third performance of the Tanger Outlets Masterworks Series, Russian Romantics, features Masleev’s brilliant playing on Rachmaninov’s beloved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Rhapsody remains one of Rachmaninov’s most popular and familiar works, revered by classical connoisseurs and novices alike – and Masleev, lauded by critics for impeccable technique, lyricism and spontaneity, will perform the masterpiece with characteristic brilliance and passion.
Also featured on the program is Stravinsky’s Divertimento from The Fairy’s Kiss and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique.” The latter is regarded as one of the composer’s most emotional works and is also his final completed symphony – performed under his baton only nine days before his death.
The GSO’s Chamber concert on January 20th continues the Russian theme, showcasing Masleev again on a variety of repertoire for piano and strings by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Don’t miss another spectacular weekend with the Greensboro Symphony!
