Sydney Van Buren’s Honors Thesis:
IMPOSTER: The Dancing Body is an exploration of identity and community through dance dramaturgy. In this piece, I use both the histories and performance power of three prominent dance genres, which are hip hop, ballet, and Latin dance, to support personal narratives relating to feelings of imposter syndrome. These personal narratives exist both inside and outside my own dance experience. I interweave dance, both individual and ensemble, monologues, interviews, and other storytelling tactics to capture the complex, multi-faceted, intersectional nature of the individual.
