Four-time Grammy Award Winning tenor Anthony Dean Griffey has captured critical and popular acclaim on opera, concert and recital stages around the world with his beautiful and powerful lyric tenor voice, gift of dramatic interpretation and superb musicianship. Appearing in leading roles at international opera houses including The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera National de Paris, and the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, he is a regular guest of the world’s orchestras including New York, Boston, LA, London, Paris, Munich, and Tokyo.

Nancy Maultsby‘s unique vocal timbre and insightful musicianship keep her in demand by opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. Her operatic career includes a wide range of roles in prestigious houses such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. She has sung principal roles in operas such as Das Rheingold, Siegfried, Götterdammerung, and Carmen, and regularly collaborates with America’s leading orchestras including the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston and Chicago Symphonies.

These two celebrated singers join the Eastern Festival Orchestra in their season finale concert performing Across the Span of Time by Richard Danielpour, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), and Sibelius’ Second Symphony in D major, op. 43.

The Eastern Music Festival’s mission is to promote musical enrichment, excellence, professional collaboration, innovation, and diversity through a nationally-recognized teaching program, music festival, concerts, and other programs which will enhance the quality of life, health, and vitality of our region. The Eastern Music Festival and School, founded in 1961 in Greensboro, North Carolina by Sheldon Morgenstern, is an internationally-renowned classical music festival and institute for young musicians that runs for five weeks each summer. The institute accepts students ages 14 through 22 from around the country and the world. The EMF faculty consists of world-class performing artists selected from top orchestras and music schools nationally and internationally.  Led by music director Gerard Schwarz, the Eastern Music Festival and School celebrates its 51st season in 2012.
