The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, a performance-based organization serving the Triangle community, opens its 31st  concert season with a performance on Sunday, October 13, 2013. The 3 p.m. concert will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, N.C.

The concert, titled “Three From One”, will feature performances of E. Satie’s “2 Gymnopedies”, F.J. Haydn’s “Sinfonia Concertante”, and J.H. Vorisek’s “Symphony in D”.  “The program will start with a performance of Satie’s famous Gymnopedies. This will be a transversal and fascinating exploration of how an alluring tune can be shaped into many different molds, from the original piano composition into an intoxicating orchestral work into a popular pop song. Next will be Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante, a brilliant composition that will highlight the technical skill and musicality of four of our orchestra members, the featured soloists of this work. Lastly you will hear a piece rarely performed, Vorisek’s Symphony in D, a real little masterpiece by a composer contemporary of Beethoven who proves once more how the 18th century Bohemian school could compete at the same level as the great masters from Vienna.” –Lorenzo Muti, artistic director of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle.

“In a season which will be dedicated to the memory of Robert Ward, 25 year COT board member and Pulitzer Prize winning composer, this first concert is very exciting.  We are announcing a major campaign to create The Robert Ward Endowment for the Performance of 20th and 21st Century Music and what more intriguing way than beginning with the Satie!  Come let us sweep you from Satie to Blood Sweat and Tears in Gymnopedies and then turn back to the glories of Haydn in his masterful and magnificent Sinfonia Concertante.”- David Lindquist, board chairman of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle.

We are so confident in this orchestra, we provide any new-comer a complementary ticket because we know they will return as happily paying patrons.  In the past ten years our audiences have grown from an average of 100 to an average of 600–an extraordinary statement about the quality of music created by this outstanding ensemble guided by the effervescent Lorenzo Muti.

Celebrating his 25th year, Lorenzo Muti will lead The COT as artistic director and conductor. He has been instrumental in developing the orchestra’s elite corps of musicians into one of the top professional ensembles in North Carolina and the Southeast.
