The School of Drama, with the support of the School of Design and Production and the School of Music, will present “The Wild Party,” a musical by Andrew Lippa inspired by the Roaring ’20s epic long poem of the same name by poet and screenwriter Joseph Moncure March. Drama faculty member Cliff Odle directs the musical that follows Queenie and Burr’s whirlwind romance, which quickly fizzles out and is rekindled with a wild party featuring an illustrious cast of characters who show up for the festivities. Admission: $25 adult/$20 student

A fully produced performance of a new play focusing on the events leading up to and following the murder of Private Booker T. Spicely, following the 80th anniversary of his death. On July 8th,1944, Private Booker T. Spicely was headed back home to Camp Butner after enjoying an evening in the Hayti neighborhood of Durham. He was unaware it would be his last. In the darkness of that night, he would become yet another victim of Jim Crow “justice.” The play was commissioned by The Booker T. Spicely Committee, funded by Duke Energy and co-produced by StreetSigns Center for Literature and Performance, Mike Wiley Productions, and The Kenan Institute for Ethics’ America’s Hallowed Ground Project. Political intrigue, personal vendettas, and passionate music much like Il Trovatore deliver an exhilarating opera experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat! This performance of Verdi’s ERNANI is a concert performance, meaning it is all about the music! There are no traditional sets, costumes, or staging.
