From Feb. 5 to Feb. 14, The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC will present Shorts in Winter: Love UnCovered, a winter festival of prize-winning one-acts from the creators of Ten by Ten in the Triangle. Compare this Valentine’s Day theatrical offering to “A dozen roses, a box of chocolates, a whole bunch of plays,” suggest the festival’s organizers who claim Triangle audiences will find Shorts in Winter “Funny, demanding, transformative, disastrous.”

Moreover, the organizers says, ticket buyers will have a chance to “meet luscious playwrights, win exotic prizes, travel to fabulous locations, and consume talented chocolates, all while discovering the true nature of love. UnCovered. In only ten minutes.”

Local theater veterans showcasing their acting talents in Shorts in Winter include Chris Chiron, Candice Churilla, Jill Greeson, Ken Hinton, Barbette Hunter, Leila Keen, David Klionsky, Billy McCormick, Kendall Riliegh, and Christopher Salazar.

“We are hosting some kind of silliness each night of the run,” Theatre Orange Artistic Director Lynden Harris e-mailed Scott Ross, “so this should be intriguing, Thong-a-thon and all. We also are having a playwrights’ reception on Saturday the 7th. I know the two N.C. local playwrights will be there along with one from [Virginia] and one from [Los Angeles].”

For example, there will be opening-night door prizes on February 5. Feb. 6 will be Patron Kiss Night; Feb. 7 will be Meet the Playwrights night; Feb. 8 will be Thong-a-thon night (donate a brand new lingerie item for Project Homestead/Emergency Shelter and receive a discounted ticket); Feb. 12 will be Second Thursday Single Mingle night; February 13 will be My Lucky Valentine night (It could be you); and Feb. 14 will be Last Chance for Love night, featuring a Carolina Inn getaway.

The ArtsCenter presents Shorts In Winter: Love UnCovered Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 5-7 and 12-14, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. at The ArtsCenter, 300-G E. Main St., Carrboro, North Carolina. $14 ($12 students and ArtsCenter friends. 919/929-2787. http://www.artscenterlive.org/.
