Carolina Theatre to Close for Repairs (posted 8/6/03)
|
The N&O and the Herald-Sun have reported that the Carolina Theatre will close Fletcher Hall “for nearly a month” to perform long-deferred repairs. The work, which involves safety and structural issues in the stage house, is expected to be done before October if the contract can be let quickly. The hall will remain available for films and lectures but not for concerts, plays or operas. The decision has sent groups who had booked the hall scrambling for other venues. The Mallarmé Chamber Players’ early September performances of Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concerti are immediately affected, along with one of Carolina Theatre’s own bus and truck shows. If the work drags into October, performances scheduled by the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Long Leaf Opera, and NC Symphony may have to be shifted elsewhere. Representatives of the Carolina Theatre are asking the City to cover cancellation fees, if any, and related revenue losses.
