MURFREESBORO – Chowan University is pleased to announce that James Guthrie of the Music Department faculty has been chosen as an ASCAP Plus Award recipient for 2013. Guthrie is the Associate Professor of Music, the Meherrin Chamber Orchestra Director, and the Music Industry Coordinator at Chowan University.

These awards, made by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, reflect the organization’s continuing commitment to assist and encourage ASCAP composers. Awards are granted by an independent panel and are based upon the unique prestige value of each writer’s catalog of original compositions as well as recent performances in areas not surveyed by the Society. In making these grants, they join with our educational institutions in supporting the growth and development of our nation’s musical future.

“The Music Department is proud of Dr. Guthrie and his achievement,” stated Interim Music Department Chair J Brabban. “Though this is not a competition or contest, a panel of independent distinguished music experts has deemed his compositions, his catalog, and his performances as prestigious.”

Join Chowan University in congratulating James Guthrie on being selected for this musical honor!
