Sweet Potato Pie, an all female bluegrass band with roots deep in North Carolina, opens the Music for a Great Space concert series at 7:30 p.m. September 22 at Huggins Performance Space at Greensboro College. Sweet Potato Pie has been entertaining audiences for more than a decade with the classy blend of Americana, Bluegrass, Country and Gospel music mixed together in a style they call “sweetgrass.” Hailed as the “Lennon Sisters of Bluegrass,” their show revolves around their beautiful 3-part harmonies, hard driving instrumentals and down home humor and story telling mixing classics from the greats of bluegrass with their own charts. With classic songs from Patsy Cline, Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and other legends mixed with their original chart topping songs, audiences are in for a sensational night of family entertainment.
Band members Sonya Stead-guitar, Crystal Richardson-banjo, Sandy Whitley-bass, and Tori Jones-fiddle all hail from North Carolina. They will be performing selections from their newest CD Once in a Blue Moon along with other “toe-tapping” favorites. This program will feature original songs by band members Sonya Stead and Crystal Richardson.
This concert will take place September 22, 7:30pm at Huggins Performance Space at Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC. Tickets are available at the door and in advance: www.musicforagreatspace.org or (336) 638-7624.
