Rising opera star Sidney Outlaw returns to the Triad with renowned pianist Warren Jones for the Henry Ingram Memorial Concert at the close of the 2011-2012 Music for a Great Space concert season. Outlaw, a native of Brevard, has been lauded by The San Francisco Chronicle as “An Opera Powerhouse,” and The New York Times as a “terrific singer.” Sidney Outlaw was the 2010 Grand Prize winner of the Concurso Internacional de Canto Montserratt Caballe.  Jones has been named “Collaborative Pianist of the Year” by the publication Musical America, as well as “Vocal Coach of the Year” by the publication Classical Singer.  The duo will perform  on April 13, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Dana Auditorium of Guilford College, 5800 West Friendly Ave.  Tickets for this event will be available at the door or in advance through the Carolina Theatre Box Office at (336) 333-2605 or www.carolinatheatre.com.  Adults $18, seniors $15, student $5.  Each ticket holder may bring two young people age 16 and under for free.  For more information, visit  www.musicforagreatspace.org.

 With MGS co-founder Henry Ingram’s passing in 2008, the Ingram Memorial Concert and Endowment Fund was established to honor his memory. All donations and proceeds made at this concert will be added to the Ingram Memorial Endowment. Outlaw recently made his debut with The English National Opera as Rambo (The Death of Klinghoffer), and has performed the roles of Malcolm (Malcolm X), Xerxes (Ariodante), Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), as well as an international debut as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) in both Germany and Israel. Mr. Outlaw’s orchestral and recital performances include: The Messiah at Carnegie Hall, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor at Avery Fisher Hall and “Wednesday At One” at Alice Tully Hall. Outlaw’s other awards include: national semi-finalist Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; finalist for both Concour International Musical de Montreal and George London Foundation; and grand prize Florida Grand Opera/YPO Vocal Competition.  Mr. Outlaw holds a master’s degree from The Juilliard School. Upcoming engagements include Telemann’s Orpheus with The New York City Opera and the title role of Don Giovanni with AIX en Provence music festival in France.  

Warren Jones performs with many of today’s best-known artists, including Stephanie Blythe, Denyce Graves, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Anthony Dean Griffey, Ruth Ann Swenson, Bo Skovhus, Samuel Ramey, James Morris, John Relyea, Joseph Alessi, and Richard “Yongjae” O’Neill, and is Principal Pianist for the exciting California-based chamber music group Camerata Pacifica. Jones has been given the very prestigious “Achievement Award” by the Music Teachers National Association at their national convention in 2011, the highest award that the Association bestows.  His collaborations have earned consistently high praise from many publications: The Boston Globe termed him “flawless” and “utterly ravishing;” The New York Times, “exquisite;” and The San Francisco Chronicle said simply, “He is the single finest accompanist now working.”
