This preview has been provided by the North Carolina Master Chorale.

Four works which showcase the North Carolina Master Chorale’s 170-voice ensemble will be presented at Hayes Barton Baptist Church on Sunday, October 25.  The 3pm concert, entitled “Heavenly Voices,” will also feature a special appearance by The Raleigh Boychoir. Music Director Alfred Sturgis will conduct the Chorale and the combined choirs in the program.

The program opens with Franz Liszt’s sacred Missa Choralis (Choral Mass), with organ accompaniment. Following the intermission, The Raleigh Boychoir, under the direction of Jeremy S. Tucker, will perform four short works. The Chorale continues the program with Henryk Górecki’s iconic Totus Tuus (Totally Thine), the unaccompanied anthem Górecki wrote to honor Pope John Paul II on his third visit to their shared home country of Poland.

Next on the program will be Felix Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer for soprano solo, chorus and organ. To close the program, the Chorale, The Raleigh Boychoir, and organ join together for British composer Benjamin Britten’s Festival Te Deum.

The concert will be presented in the Sanctuary of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, with Master Chorale keyboard artist Susan McClaskey Lohr at the church’s Moller Pipe Organ.

Individual tickets are available for the concert, as are tickets and subscription packages for the Master Chorale’s entire 2015-2016 season. Contact the NCMC box office to purchase.

The North Carolina Master Chorale

One of the major choral organizations of the Southeast, the North Carolina Master Chorale has been performing choral-orchestral masterworks for more than 70 years. Under the direction of Alfred E. Sturgis since 1993, the Master Chorale presents a diverse repertoire from the Renaissance to Contemporary with ensembles ranging from 16-voices to 170-voices. Our singers, selected by audition, bring a collective wealth of training and experience. The Master Chorale regularly collaborates with symphony orchestras, opera companies, ballet and touring productions. Music Director and conductor Sturgis holds multiple degrees in music and performed with Robert Shaw in the U.S. and Europe. In addition to the Master Chorale, Maestro Sturgis serves as Music Director for the Carolina Ballet and the Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2015, the Master Chorale was named Resident Chorus of the North Carolina Symphony. Founded as the Raleigh Oratorio Society in 1942, Master Chorale has evolved into a major regional performing arts group that works with over 250 artist-musicians each season, reaching an annual audience of over 10,000 choral arts enthusiasts.
