
Heritage Winds
Week Three of the Eastern Music Festival 2024 Season features performances by our faculty,
Young Artists, Orchestral Fellows, and special guests the US Air Force Heritage Winds
Quintet. The week promises a mix of compositions ranging from new and eclectic to the classics
we all know and love.
We start the week strong with our first Encircling the City’s performance. EMF Encircling the
City in collaboration with the Greensboro Public Library, provides an educational performance
and service-learning experience. EMF Orchestral Fellows Quartets travel to Greensboro
libraries for a free short program focused on educating children and inspiring them to fall in love
with music. The fellows will perform this week on Monday, July 8th, 10:00 AM at Glenwood
Branch Library and McGirt Horton Branch Library, Wednesday, July 10th, 10:00 AM at
Central Branch Library, and Thursday, July 11th, 10:30 AM at Hemphill Branch Library
and Glenn McNairy Branch Library.
This week, the Eastern Chamber Players concert promises an unforgettable night of musical
discovery and artistic synergy. Join us in honoring the enduring beauty of Dauber’s Serenade for
Violin and Piano, Reena Esmail’s “Saans (Breath)”, Prokofiev’s Quintet in G minor, and
Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 2 in C major on Tuesday, July 9th at 8:00 PM in Dana Auditorium.
Allow the extraordinary talents of the Eastern Music Festival’s chamber musicians to
whisk you away to a realm of deep musical expression.
This week’s Guest Masterclasses will be taught by the US Air Force Heritage Winds Quintet
and Santiago Rodriguez, piano. The classes will take place in the Carnegie Room, Hege Library
at Guilford College on Wednesday, July 10th, and Friday, July 12th at 4:00 PM. These
masterclasses are free and open to the public.
Young Artists Chamber Recitals will take place on Wednesday, July 10th at 6:30 PM;
Wednesday, July 17th at 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM; Tuesday, July 23rd at 1:30 PM and 6:15 PM;
Wednesday, July 24th at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM; and Saturday, July 27th at 2:00 PM. All recitals
are free and open to the public. Chamber recitals are located in the Carnegie Room, Hege Library
at Guilford College.
The US Air Force Heritage Winds Quintet joins EMF this week in recital as part of our
signature performances. Join us in celebrating these brave musicians and in welcoming back
some of our alumni. Featuring A1C Yuna Langehennig on flute, Msgt. Kelly Longmire* on
oboe, Ssgt. Hilary Zirkle* on clarinet, A1C Debra Loh* on bassoon, and A1C Cooper
Johnson* on horn. Come listen in on a varied and transcendent program on Wednesday, July
10th at 8:00PM in Dana Auditorium.

Attend our Musically Speaking programs to delve into the background of Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday evenings’ compositions and composers. Join musicologist Dr. Greg Carroll and EMF
special guests at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 11th, Friday, July 12th, and Saturday, July 13th in
the Moon Room of Dana Auditorium. All pre-concert talks are free and open to the public.
EMF’s Young Artists Orchestras take the stage at Dana Auditorium on both Thursday and
Friday, July 11th and July 12th at 8:00 PM, showcasing artistic excellence and adventurous
repertoire. These evenings feature Resident Conductors José-Luis Novo and Grant Cooper with
the EMF 2024 Conducting Scholars, conducting pieces by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and
Sibelius.
The Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Festival Orchestra Series’ performance titled Romance and
Revolution will feature an extraordinary performance by the Eastern Festival Orchestra and
special guest, the phenomenal pianist, Santiago Rodriguez on Saturday, July 13th at Dana
Auditorium at 8:00 PM. This program showcases the marvelous Third Piano Concerto in D
minor from Rachmaninoff as well as “Le sacre du printemps” (The Rite of Spring) from
Stravinsky.
EMF’s Young Artists Piano Recitals will take place on Sundays, July 14th and July 21st at
3:00 PM in Dana Auditorium, and Wednesday, July 24th at 1:00PM and 6:30PM in the Carnegie
Room, Hege Library at Guilford College! All recitals are free and open to the public. There will
be unique features from our young artists, from classical masterpieces to contemporary
compositions, this recital promises an unforgettable experience for all music enthusiasts.

than the performance. EMF is an unforgettable learning experience for dedicated young artists
from across the nation, an enriching and entertaining social encounter for our patrons, and a
celebration of incredible artistry.
