This preview provided by Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

Roll out the red carpet and prep for paparazzi, because the Greensboro Symphony is headed to the Oscars on December 31st for its New Years Eve Tanger Outlets POPS concert! Father and son duo Rich and Brandon Ridenour bring down the house with a deadpan sense of humor and snazzy, muted trumpet work, alongside Resident Conductor Nate Beversluis and the Greensboro Symphony.

The GSO will highlight Oscar winning songs from Hollywood dramas, romances and classics throughout the decades, including favorites such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Moon River, America from West Side Story, The Way We Were, Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music, and more!

Joining the Ridenours is classical & POPS vocalist Diane Penning, whose voice is described as “thrilling…exquisite…with gorgeous top notes.” Penning will add her versatile voice to a number of favorites on the program, and has performed with orchestras around the country.

Rich Ridenour is hailed around the nation as an amazingly versatile, masterfully musical and wickedly funny musician. With hundreds of engagements to his credit, Mr. Ridenour has recently performed with the orchestras of Indianapolis, Atlanta, Kansas City, Topeka and Detroit and has collaborated with renowned artists such as Martin Short, Carol Lawrence and Smokey Robinson. Brandon Ridenour has appeared as a concerto soloist with the National Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic, and played with leading ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, International Contemporary Ensemble, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and others.

Together, they make a formidable pair—a recent review proclaimed that ‘America’ from West Side Story “began with Brandon Ridenour on trumpet, but it ended with both Ridenours at the keyboard, carving up the piano solo into a duel accompanied by the orchestra. When the smoke cleared, both duelers were still standing, but so was the audience with thunderous applause.”
