Join us as we celebrate the Harvey B. Gantt Center’s new exhibition, my Presence is Present: interpretations of afrosurrealism from the American South, curated by Carla Aaron-Lopez.
Featuring 21 emerging and established artists in and around the Carolinas, the exhibition explores surrealism and its presence within African-American experiences. The artists purposefully create works in response to our inherent memories and identities of growing up and living in the American South.
The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African- American Arts + Culture (formerly the Afro- American Cultural Center) celebrates the contributions of Africans and African- Americans to American culture and serves as a community epicenter for music, dance, theater, visual art, film, arts education programs, literature and community outreach.
