Gershwin’s brilliant work expresses the joys and struggles of a black community in Catfish Row South Carolina in the 1930’s.  The brilliant combination of music, word, and idea among a complex blend of Americana make this a unique and impressive work both within and beyond the operatic repertory.

George and Ira Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess stars Kenneth Overton and Nicole Cabel as Porgy and Bess, and features Michelle Johnson as Serena and Victor Ryan Robertson as Sportin’ Life.
