Blood Privilege is inspired by the life of 17th century Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory, who was convicted of torturing and murdering over 600 young women to bathe in their blood as part of a beauty ritual.
Bathory may not have committed the crimes, though. What is certain is that she lent a large sum of money to the Hungarian king and had the bad judgement to demand that he pay it back.
Playwright Don Fried was commissioned to write Blood Privilege by London’s award-winning Second Skin Theatre. The play has been performed to sell-out houses in London, New York City and Boulder, Colorado.
