Featuring Peter Boyer’s multimedia work for slides and seven actors, “Ellis Island: Dream of America” and Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony. Ellis Island: Dream of America, Boyer’s most ambitious work to date, celebrates the historic American immigrant experience and the American dream. Innovative in its format, the work brings elements of the theater and multimedia into the concert hall, employing actors and projected historical images from the Ellis Island archives.
Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and premiered on December 16, 1893. The “New World” Symphony has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. Dvorak’s composition also accompanied Astronaut Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission, the first Moon landing, in 1969.
