A beloved cornerstone of the Chapel Music calendar, the Organ Recital Series showcases internationally acclaimed organists performing enduring favorites, modern masterpieces, and original improvisations. The Chapel’s Kathleen Upton Byrns McClendon Organ (Aeolian, 1932), Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Organ (Flentrop, 1976), and Brombaugh Organ (1997) are all featured in the series.

 

Robert Parkins is the University Organist and a Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke. His solo recordings have appeared on the Calcante, Gothic, Loft, Musical Heritage Society, and Naxos labels. This year's recital is the third segment of a trilogy related to organ music by Johann Sebastian Bach. "J. S. Bach and His Contemporaries" and will feature works of Bach and contemporaneous composers from Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and France. Performed on the Flentrop organ, Dr. Parkins's program will include music by George Frideric Handel, Johann Ernst Eberlin, Domenico Scarlatti, and Jean-François Dandrieu.
