A three-part mini-series in which Associate Professor Nicholas DiEugenio presents the six solo violin Sonatas and Partitas of J.S. Bach, focusing on the nature of “solitude” and how artists and arts organizations are dealing with solitude in their day-to-day activities. Bach wrote these pieces “for violin alone,” and some people have translated it to mean that “you are alone,” due to a grammar mistake … “sei solo” instead of “sei soli,” indicating “six alone” rather than “six solos.”
For each concert, DiEugenio will present two of the violin solos and interview one of three guests who are founders, presidents, or directors of a musical organization involved in social justice, activism, and accessibility work. These guests include Jacqueline Jove of the Sphinx Organization, Vijay Gupta of Street Symphony, and Kenny Bean of the Primavera Fund.
