Program

The annual {Re}HAPPENING brings together dozens of contemporary artists whose work responds to and extends the legacy of Black Mountain College visionaries such as John Cage, David Tudor, Merce Cunningham, M.C. Richards, Ruth Asawa, and Robert Rauschenberg. 

The 2020 {Re}HAPPENING celebrates the event’s 10th anniversary and will feature the Philip Glass Ensemble Unplugged, performing a repertoire for amplified pianos, vocals, and woodwinds. Selections include Parts 5 and 6 from Music in Twelve Parts, “Opening” from Glassworks, “Dance 1” and “Spaceship” from Einstein on the Beach.

Additional artist projects include: The 2020 John Cage Room, curated by Harvest Records; Above, Below and In-between, a projection event from veteran {Re}HAPPENING artists Gene A. Felice II and Kimathi Moore; Bales of Waste, an interactive installation & conversation about textile waste & solutions from The Different Wrld Team; Cooking and Cleaning in the Shadows: The (Speculative) Work of BMC cook Cornelia Williams from Anna Helgeson and Lori Horvitz; Sweet Border Line from Asheville Contemporary Dance Theater; and many more. 

The day's event runs from 3pm - 10pm

Philip Glass Unplugged performance 6pm - 7pm

Carpooling and shuttling are highly encouraged. Free parking will be available at the Lower Lot of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce (36 Montford Ave), allowing visitors to kick back and enjoy the ride with Gray Line Trolleys to Lake Eden. The FREE Dymaxion Shuttle, sponsored by Gray Line Trolley, will run between the Asheville Chamber of Commerce lower lot (36 Montford Avenue) and Camp Rockmont. Please allow for a few minutes wait. Other parking will cost $15 for a day pass.
