Opera Carolina: POSTPONED: I Dream

Sun., Apr. 19, 2020 at 2:00 PM ( Sun., Apr. 19, 2020 - Sat., Apr. 25, 2020 )

Belk Theater, 130 N Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

I Dream is a celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With a story set over the last 36 hours in the remarkable life of Dr. King, Opera Carolina’s updated version of our 2018 blockbuster is a powerful closing to our 71st season. Dr. King - preacher, father of the civil rights movement, brilliant orator, complicated family man - dared a nation to dream. He believed reaching the mountaintop would be worth the struggle. In I Dream, the character “Martin” has a recurring dream featuring a foreboding balcony. As he makes his way to Memphis after giving the most stirring speech of his life, he recalls his triumphs and failures, the progress he’s made and the struggle still ahead. The dream he dreamed - and shared with America - still resonates more than a half-century later.

In order to comply with local, state and federal recommendations for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors regretfully announces the postponement of our April production of the new musical drama I DREAM. We ask current I DREAM ticket holders to click here for more information. Additionally, we have paused our subscription renewal process until April 15.
