A blend of cultures and styles runs through the Harlem Quartet’s program.. They dance with a jazzy, ragtime beat with their opening work Three Rags for String Quartet, by American Composer William Bolcom. They celebrate the once ignored talents of Fanny Mendelssohn with a performance of her String Quartet in E-flat major. The program then turns its rhythm to a rumba from Afro-Cuban culture with Cuban composer Guido López-Gavilán’s Cuarteto en Guaguanco. To end the performance they delve into the complex textures of the German Romantic tradition with String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat major, Op. 67 by Johannes Brahms.
Tickets are $40 general admission. Youth under 25 are free.
