Performed by UNC Symphony Orchestra; Tonu Kalam, director, Isabela Leonard, mezzo-soprano
Memorial Hall, 208 East Cameron Avenue, Chapel Hill, NC 27514
Our orchestra is very excited to be part of the Carolina Performing Arts series again this year, in a program featuring one of the brightest stars on the international opera scene, Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, who this past season sang leading roles in three major productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Ms. Leonard has chosen to program Ravel’s gorgeous three-song cycle Shéhérazade on the first half of the concert, and after intermission she will sing arias from famous French operas by Gounod, Berlioz, and Bizet. In addition, the orchestra will perform works by Mussorgsky and George Butterworth, rounding out what promises to be a very special evening. Tickets for this performance are now available through Carolina Performing Arts.
