La bohème is based on Henri Murger’s novel, Scenes from the Bohemian Life. Set in Paris winter in the 1830s, it follows the loves and fortunes of a small group of friends: the poet, Rodolfo, the seamstress Mimi, the painter Marcello, the musician Schaunard, the philosopher Colline, and the coquette, Musetta. Ukranian-born Yulia Lysenko will make her Piedmont Opera debut as Mimi; UNCSA alum Megan Cleaveland as Musetta; fresh from multiple performances at the Met, Adam Diegel will sing Rodolfo. Piedmont Opera favorites and UNCSA alums Richard Ollarsaba and Michael Redding and PO newcomer Robert Balonek will round out the cast. Steven LaCosse will direct and James Allbritten will conduct.

The production will be sung in Italian with English text projected above the stage.
