Performed by Ensemble Collina: Leah Peroutka, violin; Michael, sackbut; John O’Brien, organ
Music House, 408 West 5th Street , Greenville, NC 27834
Although a considerable number of compositions idiomatic for the trombone have survived into the modern era, it is unclear if these works represent the whole of the trombone repertoire during this period. Presumably, these existing compositions represent a larger body of music that has not survived. It is clear, however, that in some places the level of virtuosity expected from trombonists was exceedingly high. The repertoire chosen for this concert was selected to demonstrate the quality and virtuosity of trombone music from cultural centers in northern Italy and central Europe during the transformative decades of the early Baroque.
