( Sat., Oct. 22, 2016 )
Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, 87 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801
The symphony’s frightful October concert opens with two works perfect for the Halloween season: Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre or “Dance of Death,” and Schmitt’s La Tragédie de Salomé, which recounts the biblical story of Salome’s insistence on the beheading of John the Baptist. The program closes with ASO’s own concertmaster Jason Posnock and cellist Alistair MacRae taking on Brahms’ Concerto for Violin and Cello.
