Performed by Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra (Dr. Peter Askim, conductor)
Stewart Theatre, Talley Student Center at NC State University, 2610 Cates Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27695
The Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra will be performing Peter and the Wolf, an apt piece for Director Peter Askim to be conducting with the NC State Wolfpack. The piece, which often serves as children’s introduction to the instruments of the orchestra, features narration to tell a story with the different instruments playing different roles. Harry Shearer, voice of numerous characters on the Simpsons, will be bringing his considerable voice acting talents to the stage to play the part of the narrator. More information about Peter and the Wolfpack! can be found here.
In keeping with the Wolfpack theme, the concert also includes works featuring two NC State faculty. The concert will include a performance of Dohnanyi’s lyrical Konzertstuck for Cello and Orchestra by Music Department faculty Dr. Jonathan Kramer and the World Premiere of Dr. Rodney Waschka III’s Raleigh Overture. Written especially for the occasion, the Raleigh Overture is part of the Raleigh Civic Orchestras’ season-long focus on the music of our time. For each concert of the 2015-6 season, both the Raleigh Civic Symphony and the Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra are performing the World Premiere of a newly-commissioned work on every concert.
